Back Provisional agreement on cross-border unfair trading practices in business-to-business relations in the agri-food supply chain

The Presidency of the Council and the European Parliament have reached a provisional agreement to strengthen the fight against unfair trading practices in the agri-food supply chain when companies from different Member States are involved. The new framework will provide better protection for farmers and small holdings, a key sector in the Valencian Community, against the bargaining power of large buyers and retail alliances.

The agreement introduces a European mechanism for mutual assistance between national authorities to exchange information, investigate cross-border cases and coordinate sanctions. It also establishes common rules on confidentiality and the protection of suppliers, as well as a coordinated action system for cases involving at least three countries, with one Member State appointed as lead.
