Bonig presents the strategy of the Government for social housing to Belgian associations

The Councillor for Infrastructure, Planning and Environment , Isabel Bonig , introduced today  the housing strategy of the Government to a group of representatives of Belgian social housing associations who are visiting these days the Region to know the actions that are being developed in this area.

The Regional Minister stressed that in the last 20 years , " they have enabled  housing aid in excess of 1.000 million euros and 1.070.000 homes have been built in the Region of Valencia , of which almost 200.000 were house aids, which was representing a 19% ". Moreover, in the last decade the house aid has risen to 68.785, which is 12% of the total. These actions are mainly concentrated in the cities of Valencia, Alicante and Castellón and metropolitan areas as well as in the town of Elche.

Also Bonig noted that according to the new planning legislation, " in the new urban developments there should reserve around 30% from the roof intended to protected housing built ." A housing with a limited maximum surface of 90 square meters and whose protection regime is usually valid for about 30 years.

The Regional Minister also highlighted the work done in the public housing stock of the Generalitat. The Institution of Infrastructure of Catalonia ( EIGE ) is the new organization that manages this park that consists of 15.164 households, of which almost half, 7.263 , are social rented.

Similarly, and in the current context caused by the economic crisis, the Regional Minister explained the decision adopted by the Government and a number of emergency measures aimed at helping the poorest families. This is the case of the Special Programme Rental Social Interest (Programa Extraordinario de Alquiler de Interés Social), through which , the Consell signs agreements with municipalities for the award of public housing to people at risk of social exclusion. " From today , we have signed 31 agreements and delivered 229 homes throughout the Region, of which 66 were families who had lost their home due to the foreclosure of the mortgage ".

This package also includes agreements with financial institutions, allocating flats to vulnerable people,  those who have been evicted, or to the families who have suffered from eviction who will be attributed a dwelling in a public park thank to an agreement with the General Council.


Meanwhile, in the frame support for the period 2013-2016, Bonig outstanded that there will be a support for two lines of action : rental housing and rehabilitation, especially from the point of view of energy and improving accessibility.

Also, within aid programmes in housing, the performances of the neighborhood regeneration resulted to have serious urban and social decay, which the Belgian delegation will be able to visit .

Housing foreigners

Moreover, the Regional Minister also referred to the commission set up in 2011 to boost the sale, the rental and the use of housing for foreign population in order to facilitate and encourage conditions of transactions for this type of citizens.

During the past year, the sales homes in Valencia from purchasers coming from Belgium increased 102.65 % compared to the previous year. In fact, in 2012 they bought 1.224 properties compared to 604 in 2011 .

As for the Belgians, in 2012 they acquired 283 properties in Orihuela, 168 en Torrevieja and 117 in Calpe. In Rojales and Altea, they bought about fifty properties and exceeded the thirty properties acquired in Javea, Torrevieja, Benidorm and Benissa.
